Ontario-sired three-year-old trotters settled the harness racing eliminations for the Dream of Glory, the signature race of Hanover Raceway, on Saturday (Jul. 29) at the half-mile oval.

The Hazelton (Muscle Mass, Bob McClure) set every fraction on his way to a 1:58.1 victory in the first elimination. He defeated Resolve To Win (Scott Young) by two-and-three-quarter lengths. Floyd The Freak (Ed Hensley) was third.

The win gave another tally to The Hazelton’s high-percentage record: the gelding is now 10-for-13 lifetime with $110,630 in earnings. Mark Etsell trains the gelding, a double Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots and Harvest Series winner. Etsell co-owns him with Terry Devos of Langton, Graham Hopkins of Chesley, and Peter Porter of Port Dover.

The Great Reset (Resolve, Lorne House) followed The Hazleton’s lead and scored from the front in the second elimination. The gelding was home in 2:00.3 with two-and-a-quarter lengths to spare over Stonebridge Bomber (Jonathan Drury), who was disqualified to fifth. Oceanview Massey (Tyler Borth) and No Angel Like Me (Sylvain Lavaille) were promoted to second and third, respectively.

The Great Reset has won three of his 24 starts, including his last two back to-back. House, a co-owner, trains the gelding that has now earned $65,105. He shares ownership with Chantal Ruijs of Georgian Bluffs.

New Rules (Lookslikeachpndale, Austin Sorrie) produced a tour-de-force in the final elimination. He led all the way and extended his four-length lead at three-quarters to five-and-a-quarter at the finish, stopping the clock in 1:57.3. Darbyshire (Paul Mackenzie) was second, a length better than Cassius Hanover, Jason Ryan).

New Rules won an Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots event earlier this season. The Marcel Barieau-trained gelding has four wins in 18 career starts and $68,778 in the bank. Barrieau is partners on the gelding with Gestion Mastel Inc. of Longueil.

The $50,000E final of the Dream of Glory is set for Aug. 5, the next card at Hanover Raceway.
