Harness racing driver Jonathan Drury collected career win number 2,000 at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (Nov. 30).
In his fourth drive behind recent Ohio shipper Self Made (Fear The Dragon), he commanded early speed and put the gelding on top. Self Made broke the beam on the quarter in :28.1 just before Hf Pans Shadow (Ed Hensley) took over, and Trion De Vie (Tyler Borth) seized command shortly after to cut the :56.1 half.
Self Made shifted off the cones on the final turn with a burst of pace, drawing level with the leader at three-quarters in 1:25.1 before rolling clear. He built up a cushion coming down the stretch and had more than enough to hold off the late-surging Beyond Better (Jean Rene Plante) to score in 1:53.4.
Beyond Better was a length-and-a-quarter short. Bayfield Beach (Louis-Philippe Roy) took show.
SELF MADE/JONATHAN DRURY MILESTONE REPLAY
With the win, Drury locked up his 2,000th tally since his career began in 2008. The reinsman has started 17,978 times, producing earnings of more than $31 million. He was awarded with a commemorative placard in the winnerās circle.
Self Made is now two-for-32 this season. He transferred to Ontario in September for new owners Albina Montini, Christine Michele, Kwong Sum Low, and William Rogers. The five-year-old gelding has 16 career wins and $259,052 in the coffers from 93 starts.
The next card at Woodbine Mohawk Park, set for Monday, Dec. 2, will feature a Preferred Trot.
