Ervin Hanover breaks 1:48 at Mohawk

Ervin Hanover (Captaintreacherous) produced one of the fastest miles of the Canadian harness racing season as temperatures neared zero at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (Nov. 2).

The four-year-old began fifth for Louis-Philippe Roy, where he sat as horses battled three-wide to the quarter in :26.2 and American History (Dale Spence) pocket-popped to put up the half time of :54. Ervin Hanover launched first-over going into the final turn, advancing into open air through a hot third panel to three-quarters in 1:21.3.

Ervin Hanover rocketed to the front, rolling clear into the lead at the top of the stretch. The stallion, like a man on a mission, thundered home with a :26.1 final quarter to a six-and-a-quarter-length victory in 1:47.4.

Jack Panic (Jonathan Drury) was best of the rest, followed by Taurasi (Doug McNair), who closed for show.

ERVIN HANOVER REPLAY

Ervin Hanover, trained by Dave Menary, is now 13-for-55 lifetime with $460,428 in earnings. His victory on Saturday sliced more than a second off a previous best. The 1:47.4 clocking was the fastest mile by an aged pacer in Canada this year.
