CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – With a front end trip there was no stopping Euchred in the Saturday evening feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The $2,900 event saw Euchred and driver David Dowling stack their competition three-wide around the first turn and make Doctor Royal (Driven by Gilles Barrieau), riding a three-race win streak, duck into the three-hole. Euchred then ran the rest of the mile relatively uncontested through fractions of 28.1, 57.4 and 1:27.3 before closing out the mile in 1:57.1. Adkins Hanover (Corey MacPherson) drafted along for the deuce at the longest odds on the board while Revenant (Adam Merner) was third. Euchred paid $20.00 on the nose to win for owner Kayla Habicht Walker of Inverness, N.S.
Sodwana Bay started off her 2019 season with ease as she ran the gauntlet on top to win the $2,800 Fillies and Mares Open pace on the program for trainer-driver Barrieau and owners Wayne MacRae of Fall River, N.S., and Howmac Farms Ltd., of North Wiltshire. The daughter of No Pan Intended stopped the clock in 1:57.2 over Innocent Kiss (Merner) and Nomatterwhen (Dale Spence).
Marc Campbell had a training and driving double on the Saturday evening program to continue his lead in both categories at the capital oval. Glasgow Gracie was a 2:02.2 victor in race one for Campbell, while Eagle Jolt captured a $1,900 class in 1:59.2 later in the program from the Campbell stable.
