The four-year-old pacer Sauble Attack sliced more than two seconds off of his harness racing lifetime record with a six-and-a-quarter-length romp at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Monday.

The Sauble Hill Farms and Nasussito Racing homebred rocketed out from post four to a four-length lead in a :27.3 first quarter mile, and the victory was never in question from there. Anthony Haughan cooled off the son of Bettors Delight to :56.4 and 1:25.3 middle fractions as Shadow Warrior (Scott Wray) narrowed the gap to two lengths. Haughan then shifted Sauble Attack back to top gear entering the final turn, and the gelding kicked away again to complete his dominant win in 1:54.3. Shadow Warrior was well best of the rest, beating Smilingbillythekid (Travis Henry) to place by another three and three quarter lengths.

SAUBLE ATTACK REPLAY

Sauble Attack crossed $50,000 in lifetime earnings with the win, his eighth in a 34-start career to date. Otis Hall trains him.

Also on the card, trainer Bradley Vanstone and his sole racehorse, Poplar Luke, got of the mark for 2022. Poplar Luke, a four-year-old Sunshine Beach stallion, wired the field and took a new lifetime mark of 1:58.2. Vanstone, a resident of Goderich, Ontario, has owned the horse since winning him for an $8,000 bid at the 2019 London Selected Sale. Poplar Luke has now made $22,201and won three times on 23 career starts.

The Raceway at Western Fair returns at 5:50 p.m. EDT on May 10.
