It was sunny and beautiful day for Trevor Henry Day at Hanover Raceway. A large crowd of harness racing fans were on hand to take in the race card and recognize driver Trevor Henry and support the charity fundraising cause, which was in support of Canadian Tire Jump Start.
Henry, a 10-time Driving Champion at Hanover Raceway was joined by Canada’s reigning Horse of The Year, Desperate Man, who won the Pepsi North America Cup last season with Henry as his driver. The duo led the post parade out for all three of the Dream of Glory eliminations as well.
The Arthur native signed autographs and had meet and greets with a multitude of fans and then got in the race bike and drove 3 races on the card.
The fundraising effort on behalf of the charity raised $10,163 for Jump Start.
Another part of the day included the three eliminations of the Dream of Glory.
In the first elimination, Bob McClure guided the Muscle Mass champion Sea Can to victory by a length in 2:00.3 for owner/trainer Mark Etsell of Rockwood and his partners Terry Devos of Langton and Peter Porter of Port Dover.
He benefitted from a two-hold trip behind pace setter Renegade Gypsy who cut all the fractions, finding racing room in the stretch to claim the victory and punch his ticket to next week’s final. Renegade Gypsy held for second, while The Champ Champ was third.
In the second Dream of Glory elimination, Lenis (Il Sogno Dream) and driver Austin Sorrie went first over past the half and ground down tempo setter Three Finger Pour and Trevor Henry, drawing away in the stretch and holding off a late charging Promise For Life to win in 1:59.1, for trainer Brian Lee and owner Leonard Christopher of Acton. Three Finger Pour held onto third.
In the third and final Dream of Glory Elimination, Drinks at Home (Royalty For Life) and driver Bob McClure collared a hard used Armstead Cole, moving to clear past him at the top of the stretch to win the fastest elim, in 158.1 for trainer Luc Blais and owner Determination of Montreal, Quebec, with a fast-charging Evil Guy and Trevor Henry getting up for second and Armstead Cole getting third.
