Following up on a successful season’s harness racing debut in the New Holland Trotting Series opener a week ago, Fashion Frenzie dominated the $30,000 second leg on Monday, March 17 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Fashion Frenzie

Louis-Philippe Roy drove the seven-year-old Archangel-Striking Fashion gelding for trainer Jeff Gillis and Quebec owners Ecurie Francis Richard Inc., Gestion Mario Bourgea Inc., Pierre Guillemette and Sylvain Richard.

There was never an anxious moment for Fashion Frenzie as the two-time O’Brien Award winner led a short field of five in post position order with one starting gate breaker through fractions of :28.2, :58 and 1:27 en route to a 1:55.1 victory. New Rules (Trevor Henry) followed 1-1/4 lengths behind with Locatelli (Phil Hudon) making late gains in third.

A career winner of 29 races and more than $1.32 million, Fashion Frenzie paid $2.60 to win as the overwhelming 1-5 favourite.

Now perfect in a pair of New Holland preliminary legs, Fashion Frenzie will take aim at a series sweep in the $60,000 added trotting final on Saturday, March 29 at Mohawk.

FASHION FRENZIE REPLAY

The New Holland Series is for non-winners of $150,000 (fillies & mares $175,000) in 2024.

Another trotter with a chance for a series sweep is Macallan ($2.70), who was a repeat winner in a conditioned Pop-Up Series with driver Scott Young sending the 1-5 favourite down the road to a 1:55.3 score by two lengths for trainer Tim Cherwaiko and co-owner Gary Green.

Shadrack Hanover ($3.60) delivered on his 4-5 pari-mutuel promise in another $16,000 division as he got the jump on the other opening leg winner, Cool Clifford, scooting off by 5-1/4 lengths in 1:56 with James MacDonald working out a perfect pocket trip for trainer Amanda Riley and owner Triple S Equine.

This Pop-Up Series is for trotters that were non-winners of $30,000 (fillies and mares $37,500) in 2024 or not averaging $1,700 (fillies & mares $2,125) per start in 2024 with a minimum of 15 starts. The $35,000 final will be contested on Monday, March 31.
