Trois-Rivieres, QC – There are seven two-year-old pacing fillies competing Sunday (Sept. 25) at the Hippodrome 3R and all of them are looking to put in a good mile before next week’s Lucien Bombardier Pace.
The final stakes event at H3R for the 2022 season has 36 fillies still eligible for the Bombardier, named after one of the great supporters of Quebec harness racing. The race is co-sponsored by Standardbred Canada. Before the entry fee of $500 per horse, the purse for the Bombardier is already over $30,000.
The 5th race features standout filly Pocahontas Du Lac, the homebred daughter of Betterthancheddar, who was bred and is co-owned by none other than Louis-Philippe Roy with his brother Pierre-Luc, who will drive her.
At the Super Sunday Championship Finals last week at H3R, Pocahontas Du Lac, with Louis-Philippe driving, was at her best, winning her $55,000 final by three and three-quarter lengths in a lifetime best 1:57 mile. She has drawn the rail and is the 2-1 morning line favorite.
Also in the race is Make Bet SBG (Bettors Delight) from post four for driver Stephane Brosseau. She was second in the finals last week at odds of 25-1. Another standout is Godiva Shadow Girl (Shadow Play) from post six for driver Robert Shepherd. She was third in the final last week and prior to that had won five of her last six starts with a record of 1:58.2.
With so many fillies still eligible for the Lucien Bombardier Pace next week, there could be two divisions of the stakes event. We will have to wait until Wednesday’s draw to see.
Another champion from last week, HP Felicity (Muscle Mass), takes on older trotters in the 3rd race from the rail for driver Robert Shepherd. Her 2:01.4 triumph was good enough to win her $65,000 final last week and is the 3-1 second choice in the race going against Kinderunbelievable (post 7) and Muscles Forever (post 4).
There is two Preferred pacing events Sunday, one for the mares in the 6th race headlined by Bettimontheriver (post 4), Arrhythmogenic (post 1) and return winner Shemaksmefelunreal (post 5). The horses battle in the 8th race with BS Tyrrific (post 3) taking on Disneyman (post 5) and Hooter Shooter (post 1).
