Valentine Blue Chip (Muscle Mass) made it three-for-three on the harness racing season with her first Ontario Sires Stakes start in the second Grassroots leg for three-year-old trotting fillies on Thursday (Jun. 20) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Away from post seven in the first division, Doug McNair put her in the four-hole until coming around the final turn. The filly steadily worked past horses and forged clear by a length to score in 1:54.3. Rhythm Of Life (James MacDonald) finished second with Hope N Glory (Jody Jamieson) third.
VALENTINE BLUE CHIP REPLAY
The Gregg McNair-trained Valentine Blue Chip resumed racing last week after her first win of the year in January. She is four-for-five lifetime with $38,040 in earnings. Anthony Timmins of Birmingham (GB) owns the filly.
Her Currency (The Bank, Bob McClure) took the second split, sweeping to the lead around the last turn and drawing clear by three-and-a-quarter lengths for the victory in 1:55. West River Ivory (Paul MacDonell) snagged second late over Go Have Fun (MacDonald).
HER CURRENCY REPLAY
With the win, Her Currency stayed undefeated in the Grassroots this year. She finished third in her final at two. She is now three-for-13 lifetime with $63,720 in earnings for owner/breeders Scott McEneny of Carlisle and Aristi Varsakis of Hamilton.
Radical Legacy (Muscle Mass) gave Team McNair a double in the third division. She grinded down Mass Cara (Trevor Henry) from the pocket and pulled a half-length clear to win in 1:55.3. Sue Anne (Louis-Philippe Roy) was two more lengths back in third.
RADICAL LEGACY REPLAY
Radical Legacy got off the mark for 2024 with the win, her sixth lifetime in 12 outings. The filly, owned by Ross and Brent Holmes of London, has earned $58,635.
Birthday Money (Resolve) celebrated her first victory of the season in the final group. Todd Ratchford gave the filly a pocket trip, and she pulled out and wore down Sweet Valley (Doug McNair) in the stretch to win by a half-length in 1:55.1. Flirty Dancer (Tyler Jones) took show.
BIRTHDAY MONEY REPLAY
Birthday Money had previously made four winless attempts this year. She has tallied four victories in her 13 career tries for trainer Matt Bax and has earned $64,220 for owner/breeders Bax Stable of Campbellville and Marshall Bax of Hamilton.
The three-year-old trotting fillies will continue Grassroots action on Jul. 7 at Clinton Raceway.
