Chapteroneverseone (Swan For All) battled to his first win in Canada as he returned from a four-month layoff in a conditioned harness racing event at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Tuesday (Nov. 12).
The gelding, looking for his second lifetime victory, was away third for Anthony Haughan in a :30.2 first panel and angled out of third in front of the stands to begin a first-over march. He started to move at the half in 1:02 and climbed to within a length-and-a-half leader Lulus King (Andy Moore) at three-quarters in 1:32.2.
Chapteroneverseone gave that rival more than he could handle, taking over at the top of the lane, and he hung on over the closing Jd Beauty (Travis Henry) to complete the win in 2:03.1.
Jd Beauty finished second with Gaelic Piper (Paul Mackenzie) rounding out the ticket.
CHAPTERONEVERSEONE REPLAY
The victory was also Chapteroneverseoneās first since he broke his maiden more than a year ago. The gelding began his career in Indiana for trainer Jay Hochstetler, racing there until May of this year before moving to Ontario and the Tim Myers barn. He was shelved in July after five starts and did not resurface until qualifying in October. He is now two-for-21 lifetime with $20,384 in earnings. David Omicioli of Macomb owns the three-year-old.
Jason Ryan and Colin Kelly both won three races on the night.
Racing will resume at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Friday, Nov. 15 at 5:50 p.m. EST.
