Shay Seelster (Sunshine Beach) and trainer Mary Ratchford teamed up to collect their first career harness racing wins at Flamboro Downs on Saturday (Jan. 27).

After persisting first-up from before the half, the determined mare muscled clear of pacesetter Wickedly Devilish (Nick Steward) in the stretch for her first victory in 29 lifetime starts in 2:03.

SHAY SEELSTER REPLAY

Shay Seelster was driven by Todd Ratchford, Mary’s brother, who owns and previously trained the four-year-old mare. Mary Ratchford received her trainer’s license in January. The 19-year-old had made two starts prior to the win. Shay Seelster has now earned $12,014.

Scott Coulter was the night’s top driver with four wins on the 10-race card. The performance furthered a strong start to the year for the reinsman, who has now won at a 22.7 per cent clip through 79 races.

Racing continues at Flamboro Downs on Sunday, Jan. 28 at 6:55 p.m. EST.
