Ty Robillard recorded his first victory as a harness racing trainer on Thursday (May 9) at Rideau Carleton Raceway as he and his trainee Allstar Ballerina (Jimmy Freight) both broke their maidens.
Guy Gagnon guided the filly to victory, taking over at the quarter in :28.4 and setting :59.1 and 1:28.3 middle panels. Lory Marchandise (Stephane Pouliot) marched first-up on the leader from the half until tucking into the open pocket nearing three-quarters.
Allstar Ballerina held off her and heavy favourite Bestgirl In Town (Melanie Plourde) to win by a length-and-a-quarter in 1:59. The winner paid $7.50.
The victory was the first for Robillard and Allstar Ballerina. The trainer bought into the filly with Santo Barilla at the end of April and made his pari-mutuel debut when he sent her out on May 5. Thursdayās win was his second career start. The three-year-old is now one-for-10 lifetime with $4,282 in earnings.
