Harness racing driver Tyler Borth improved his seasonal win rate to 24 percent with a five-victory night at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Wednesday (Jan. 17).
The reinsman banged out a double to begin the card. He took the first by five lengths in 2:05.3 with Ultimate Twix (Pang Shui) and the second with Maximus Power (Shanghai Phil) by a length-and-three-quarters in 2:03.1.
Borth drove Papiamento (Somebeachsomewhere) to a three-quarter-length victory in 2:01.4 in the fifth in a first-over trip from post eight. It was the 10-year-old geldingās 38th lifetime victory in his 250th start, and it upped his career earnings to $248,223. Kayle Hendry trains him for Keelan Macdonald of Manalapan.
Ms Chantalmachabay (Jk Endofanera) scored a back-to-back win with Borth in the sixth to give the driver his grand slam. The mare rolled past her rivals from fourth at the top of the lane to win in 2:04 by two lengths. The Dean Nixon-trained mare switched to London last week after an extended spell at Woodbine Mohawk Park and won by four-and-a-quarter lengths. William Andrew and Jay Noye own the four-year-old that is now seven-for-48 lifetime with $26,735 in earnings.
MS CHANTALMACHABAY REPLAY
Borth completed a natural hat trick in the seventh for his fifth victory of the night. He fed Takeapeek At Me (Trixton) second-over cover, and the gelding soared to the front on the final turn for a length-and-a-half victory in 2:03. The five-year-oldās win was his first since November 2022. Jason Sherman trains him and co-owns him with Betty Sherman.
TAKEAPEEK AT ME REPLAY
Borth has won 24.1 per cent of his races this season with 30 victories in 124 starts. The reinsman, Londonās 2023 Driver of the Year, set personal bests in all categories last season, including 413 wins. He has won 1,764 races in his career from 12,546 starts and has driven horses to more than $12 million in earnings.
Frigid temperatures in London ā a low of -10Ā°C ā caused slow times throughout the night. In a modern-day rarity for Ontario harness racing, none of the nightās 11 races broke the 2:00 barrier.
Racing continues at The Raceway at the Western Fair District at 5:50 p.m. EST on Friday, Jan. 19.
