Taurasi (Racing Hill) continued his harness racing dominance in the Preferred Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park with a fifth straight victory in Saturday’s $36,000 edition of the class.
Doug McNair had the gelding on top the whole way, cutting fractions of :27.4, :57.2, and 1:26. Taurasi crept away by two-and-three-quarter lengths coming down the stretch and was never under urging as he came home a winner in 1:52.3. Cold Creek Queso (Tyler Jones) came on for second over Momas Son Byrne (Jonathan Drury).
TAURASI REPLAY
Taurasi has won his past five races, all at the Preferred level. He has been under trainer Richard Moreau for his past six since moving to Woodbine Mohawk Park for his winter racing. The five-year-old raced among Grand Circuit company for much of last season. He is 15-for-34 lifetime and has earned $455,321. Brad Grant of Milton and Alagna Racing of Jackson owns the gelding.
McNair won four of the card’s 11 races, helped in part by the absence of James MacDonald and Louis-Philippe Roy, who were at the O’Brien Awards. McNair helped trainer Richard Moreau to five victories on the card, driving three of them.
Woodbine Mohawk Park will continue action on Monday, Feb. 5 at 7:10 p.m. EST.
