Goober Smack (Flanagan Memory) won his second straight harness racing contest to complete a sweep of the preliminary legs of the Ontario-sired Harvest Series for freshman trotting colts on Thursday (Oct. 2) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Tyler Borth sent the colt on a backstretch brush, completing the move at the midway point. Goober Smack gradually extended his lead down the stretch, building up a two-and-three-quarter-length margin in a 1:56.4 victory. P L Robert G (James MacDonald) was second-best, followed two lengths behind by Devils Kiss (Louis-Philippe Roy).

Goober Smack missed by a head on debut and is now two-for-three with $21,250 in earnings. Susanne Kerwood co-bred and trains the freshman, who lowered his mark with Thursdayās win. S&R Racing Stable of Acton owns him.
In the second division, Lmc Mr Squishy (Archangel, Pat Hudon) dueled down the lane with Lockdown Romeo (Bruce Richardson) and prevailed by a head in 1:56.2. Sid The Kid (Bob McClure) closed in late to make it a three-across finish. The winner, also conditioned by Hudon, has now won three of his 11 outings and has amassed a bankroll of $40,687. Loredana Cirillo of Kleinburg owns and bred the gelding.
LMC MR SQUISHY REPLAY
Trophy Taker (All Bets Off, Jody Jamieson) took the first division of leg two of the counterpart series for two-year-old pacing males. He was two-and-a-half lengths the best over Magical Aoine (MacDOnald). Max Patrick (Sylvain Filion) finished third. It was the second win for Trophy Taker, who is now two-for-five with three place finishes. The Jack Darling-trained colt has now earned $30,000 for Jack Darling Stables of Cambridge.

Stonebridge Thrill (Bettors Delight, Borth) rolled past his rivals off a second-over trip in the second split, breaking his maiden in 1:52.3. Wicked Prince (Roy) held place after taking the lead in the stretch. Be Right There (MacDonald) closed late for show. Stonebridge Thrill had six previous winless efforts but made the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots Final, in which he finished third. The colt has earned $29,176 for Mac and Carol Nichol of Burlington and is trained by Meg Crone.
