Coming off his harness racing victory in the Brian Paquet Invitational, Fortify (Sweet Lou) went all the way in the $36,000 Preferred Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (Oct. 19).
The gelding emerged from the field of five to lead to the quarter in :27.1 for Tyler Borthand had no challenges to the half in :55. He was unbothered by the first-over Jack Panic (Jonathan Drury) going into the final turn, steaming through three-quarters in 1:22.3. Fortify increased his margin down the stretch, and he cruised home to a three-length victory in 1:49.2. Jack Panic got by Saulsbrook Victor (Brett Macdonald) late for second.
FORTIFY REPLAY
Fortify has now won three of his last four starts, including two top-level dashes at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Rene Bourassa trains the gelding for Daniel Gaudreault of Mont-Joli and Ecuries Maguire of Sainte-Marie.
Racing will resume at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday, Oct. 21 at 7:10 p.m. EDT.
