Moonshiners Credit (Up The Credit) won for the first time a year at Flamboro Downs on Thursday (Sep. 16), ending a 42-start harness racing losing streak.

Driver Scott Coulter gave the mare the best chance possible, swinging her a pocket trip from post five. Leader Ma Rebelle (Brett MacDonald) towed Moonshiners Credit through :27.3, :57.2, and 1:27 panels and entered the stretch on top with the field fanning out behind her.

Moonshiners Credit sprinted out of the two-hole with the freshest legs and paced clear by a length-and-three-quarters for the victory in 1:56.3.

Ma Rebelle held off Eataams Elie (Paul Mackenzie) for second. The win price was $15.70.

MOONSHINERS CREDIT REPLAY

Moonshiners Credit had not won since Sep. 17, 2021 at Flamboro Downs. Her form has trended up as of late with five top-three finishes in her past six starts. Michelle Sherman now trains the five-year-old for Shawn Hyatt of Thamesford and Dave Simpson of Hanover. The mare is six-for-83 lifetime and has banked $49,672.

One Man Army (Big Jim) broke a similar slump — that of 34 races — in a wire-to-wire victory in the sixth race. Paul Mackenzie owns, trains, and drives the seven-year-old gelding who was clocked in a lifetime-best 1:55.1. The gelding last found the winner’s circle on Jul. 23, 2021. He has six tallies in 73 career starts and $43,033 in earnings.

Flamboro Downs will host racing again on Saturday, Sep. 17 with a 6:35 p.m. EDT opener.
