Prohibition Legal (Big Jim) got up by a nose to prevail over several of her harness racing opponents in next week’s Milton Stakes in the $36,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday (Sep. 6).
She landed in the pocket for Louis-Phillippe Roy behind Tells On A Roll (Travis Cullen), who was looking for her third straight Preferred win. The latter paced through the quarter in :26.3 and half in :56.1 before receiving a challenge from the first-over and marching Silver Label (Doug McNair) on the final turn.
Silver Label pressured the leader to three-quarters in 1:24.2 and grinded away at her down the stretch with Prohibition Legal trapped at the pylons. Prohibition Legal slipped out in the final eighth of a mile, dispatched Tells On A Roll to take the lead, and held off Silver Label to snag the victory in 1:51.2.
Huntress (Sylvain Filion) surged late and got up for third, a half-length back. Caviar N Crackers (Ed Hensley) was right there with them in fourth.
