Free To Be Me has cemented herself as a rising star at Rideau Carleton Raceway with three straight victories at the track since moving to Ottawa after a debut victory.
The two-year-old Always B Miki filly crushed foes by more than seven lengths in her debut at Truro and shipped to Rideau Carleton the next week. She won her first two starts at the oval and destroyed aged condition company by more than 10 lengths on Thursday.
She left quickest in her most recent start but dropped back to third as she made bad steps and tossed her head. Driver Samuel Fillion steadied the filly and sent her to the outside after finishing the first quarter mile in :27.4. She struck the front quickly and paced :57.4 and 1:27.2 middle panels before widening her margin.
No horse was able to match pace with Free To Be Me, who blasted a way from her foes with no encouragement from Fillion and cruised to a 10-and-a-half length score in 1:56.3. Ohbabywefoundlove (Pascal Berube) won the secondary race for place. Century Gaga (Ryan Guy) was third.
FREE TO BE ME REPLAY
Free To Be Me, and $8,000 Harrisburg purchase, is undefeated through four starts and has earned $8,907. William Allan McNeil trained the filly on debut before owners Saulsbrook Stables Inc. and Michael McKenzie moved her to Rideau Carleton. Michael Armstrong is the current conditioner.
Also on the card, reinsman Guy Gagnon and trainer Mandy Archer combined for four victories on the day. The high-percentage partnership sent out Zoes Lucky Guy (1:53.3), Major Motion (1:57.4) for a maiden-breaking win, Saulsbrook Kaisen (1:56.4), and Thinkingofyoubabe (1:53.3). After losing her first 11 starts, Zoes Lucky Guy has won three straight since the duo took her over at the beginning of August.
Racing is back at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday, Aug. 22.
