One of the greatest cards of harness racing ever offered on the Eastern Seaboard of Canada will be presented Saturday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
There will be 14-dashes go behind the gate at the historic oval with a 6:30 P.M AST) opening post time featuring the Home Hardware Maritime Breeders for three-year-old pacers and two divisions of the Cecil Ladner Memorial Invitational.
The biggest pot of the night is in race 9 with a lone division of the Home Hardware Maritime Breeder’s for three-year-old pacing fillies carrying a $34,000 purse. Undefeated in 2022, Therealprincess (Source Of Pride) is the top choice from post 4 for driver Corey MacPherson, trainer and co-owner Eddy Doucette and co-owners Blaine Thibeau, Grant Mann and Gordon MacLeod.
Her top rivals are slated as Mystical Gal (by Pang Shui, To be driven by Dale Spence) and Orrsterror (Stonebridge Terror, Gilles Barrieau).
The Home Hardware Maritime Breeders pacing colts have three divisions for a $14,200 purse in each.
The first division in race 3 has Zendayacougarbeach (Cougar Hall, Marc Campbell) picked to win from post 4 for trainer Dave Kelly Sr., and owners Juanita and Alan MacLeod of Brackley. The three-year-old was a runner-up in the Turner Memorial stake in 1:56.2 on June 10 at the Truro Raceway in Nova Scotia.
Fern Hill General (Malicious) has rail control in his $14,200 split in race 6 for driver Brodie MacPhee, trainer Earl Smith and owners Peter Smith and Gerald Morrisey. The Malicious colt was victorious his last two outings.
Race 12 is the final colt division and Rollwithhottytoddy (Rollwithitharry ) will have to overcome post 7 to win for driver Barrieau, trainer and co-owner Trevor Hicken and co-owners Todd and Trish hardy of Nova Scotia. The colt is the divisional leader so far in 2022 by virtue of his 1:53.4 victory over Charlottetown on June 4.
In Cecil Ladner Memorial action, Rotten Ronnie (Malicious) is the top choice in race 10 for a $6,000 purse. Redmond Doucet Jr., drives the stallion for trainer Lennan MacIsaac and owners Redmond Doucet Sr., and Andy Stewart of Nova Scotia. He lines up against Mantario (Damian MacLellan), Merito Hanover (Jason Hughes), Blood Money (Campbell), Beachin Lindy (Stephen Charlton), American Risk (Todd Tries), Racemup (Ken Murphy) and The Rev (Barrieau).
Island Beach Boy has the outside post 8 in race 13 with Barrieau training and driving the Somebeachsomewhere four-year-old for owners Ian Smith and Arnold Hagen. The pacer was a recent winner in 1:50.1 over Woodbine Mohawk Park in Ontario. His rivals are Screen Test (MacPherson), Batterup Hanover (Paul Langille), Bugsy Maguire (Norris Rogers), Time To Dance (Campbell), Twin B Tuffenuff (David Dowling), Always B Sweet (Darren Crowe) and Rose Run Quest (Adam Merner).
