CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – A top notch group of aged harness racing pacers will battle for supremacy Saturday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 12-dash Saturday card has a 6 P.M. opening post time with the top choice in the race 11 preferred pace. Adam Merner gets the call on the rail sitting son of Bettors Delight in the $3,400 feature for trainer Wade Sorrie and owner Walter Simmons of Summerside. A second-place finisher in last week’s James (Roach) MacGregor Gold Cup and Saucer consolation, Bugsy Maguire sports five wins and five seconds from 16 seasonal starts.
The richest Atlantic bred pacer of all-time, The Rev, has post 2 for trainer-driver Gilles Barrieau.
Post 3 belongs to Cowboy Logic and driver Steven Shepherd for trainer Harold Shepherd. Steven’s two brothers, Patrick and Robert, captured the biggest race of year with Smooth Lou in last Saturday’s Gold Cup and Saucer final and he will look to continue the Shepherd Saturday top class domination this week.
Black Dan has been solid since coming to P.E.I. with the Ryan Perrot trained and driven son of If I Can Dream leaving from post 4 Saturday.
Screen Test was large his last two starts winning in 1:52.1 and 1:53.3 for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Ron Gass. He gets post 5 this week.
Peter MacPhee places The Rev on top of the Post Time Picks. “We loved that start two back where The Rev fired home in 27.2 to grab the silver. He lines up in a prime-time spot and is going to get a smooth journey so it could be picture time at Red Shores.”

Moonwriter, Woodmere Ideal Art Square Off
SUMMERSIDE, PE – Woodmere Ideal Art and Moonwriter are two of the finest pacers on the Eastern Seaboard and they will go toe-to-toe Sunday afternoon in the top event at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The 14-dash Sunday card has a 1 P.M. opening post time with Woodmere Ideal Art the morning line favourite in the $2,900 event. The 23-time winning son of Articulator has the outside in a five-horse field in race 13 of the day for owner Ultimate Stable of Greater Lakeburn, N.B. Trainer Sifroi Melanson has enlisted the services of Jason Hughes in the race bike today fresh off a third-place finish in preferred action in Charlottetown.
Moonwriter leaves from post 4 with Marc Campbell picking up the drive on the Colin Johnson trainee. A winner of 28 races, Moonwriter now finds himself $600 short of the $400,000 mark in career purse earnings. Also in the field are Disneyman (To be driven by Adam Merner), Best To Hurst (Ken Murphy) and Flash In The Pang (Walter Cheverie).
The Backstretch Beat thinks Moonwriter will be forwardly placed and will go all the way to the winner’s circle while passing his career milestone today. “When Moonwriter makes the lead he is the next best thing to invincible and we think that is where Marc is heading with this veteran. He is only a few hundred dollars short of the $400,000 mark and that barrier could very easily be pierced today.”
Heart And Soul is the top choice in the $2,400 back-up pace in race 5 of the day with Cheverie in the bike for trainer George Riley and owner Riley Farms Ltd., of Summerside. A winner of 32-career races, Heart And Soul has been winless so far in 2021 but was a runner-up his last three starts. His main challengers are Legendary Ron (Hughes) and Rymar Jimbo (Ken Murphy).
