Charlottetown, PE – Marc Campbell and Jason Hughes battled right to the end but they walked away tied in the top harness racing driver standings with 113 wins each after the 11 dash card came to a close on New Year's Eve at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The leading reinsman went into the event with 111 winners each and both managed to score two victories to share the title for the second year in a row.
Campbell jumped to the lead with victories with Mr MacLeod for owner Mallory Lewis and trainer Kyle Wilkie in 2:02.1 and Winspun Rebel for trainer Vaughn Doyle and co-owners Darla Jay and Shelly Wilkie, Charlottetown, PE. This trainer-ownership group also had their picture taken with Ideal Lifetstyle to celebrate a big night at the track.
Jason Hughes posted a driving double from his stable. Stayoutofmyaffair, owned by Simon Hughes, took the 7th race in 2:00 flat. The Stratford native was able to climb back to the top with Campbell in the standings winning the final race of 2015 with Silverhill Blaze in 1:59.1. Donald MacRae owns the pacer who notched his seventh win from 35 starts.
DBS Rosco, owned by Wendell and Robbie Shaw, Summerside, PE and Derek Folland, Kensington, PE, captured the New Year's Eve feature for driver Kenny Arsenault in an impressive 1:57.2. Eagle Jolt was second while Sam completed the triactor. It was Arsenault's third winner of the night for the hat-trick.
Corey MacPherson also recorded a driving double on the special race presentation.
The wager was $46,684.
