Daliator (Dali) romped by seven lengths for his first harness racing win in more than a year after 31 straight defeats on Friday (Nov. 24) at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
The gelding, trained and driven by Greg Dustin, slotted in sixth as a speed duel raged in a :28.1 opening quarter. Dustin pulled him out onto cover as the field moved toward the midway point in :57.4, when Phone In (Garrett Rooney) made front.
Daliator swung out as his cover stalled on the backstretch, and he flew to the lead by three-quarters in 1:28.4. As the leader and first-over horse continued to back up the rest, Daliator added to his cushion. He cruised home down the stretch to a seven-length victory in 1:59 at 11-1.
Bravado Seelster (Paul Mackenzie) circled up for second, followed by Lime In Da Coconut (Nick Steward).
DALIATOR REPLAY
Daliator had made 22 prior winless starts this season. Gys Versteegh of London and Ted Melchers of Komoka own the gelding. The nine-year-old has won 10 times and earned $99,202 lifetime for Dustin and the pair.
The Raceway at the Western Fair District will resume action on Monday, Nov. 27 at 5:50 p.m. EST.
