Harness racing drivers Logan Gillis and David Kelly combined to win six of the seven races at The Track On 2 on Wednesday (Aug. 31).
Gillis opened the card with a straightforward win behind Outlaw Blue Isle (Blue Burner) in 1:54.2. The four-year-old mare, trained by Rodney Starkewski for Fun For Fans, vaulted three-and-half lengths clear out of the pocket and stopped the timer in 1:54.2.
Leading driver Kelly oversaw a nine-length romp for Threalgoods (Trust The Artist) two races later. The nine-year-old finished in 1:55.2. Richard Schneider trains the gelding and shares ownership with Outback Stable.
Gillis struck back in the fourth, guiding his trainee Kootenay Lager (Vertical Horizon) to a 1:55.4 score. The six-year-old gelding races for owner Megan Macpherson.
Kelly completed his triple with back-to-back commanding wins. Hf Thegreatpumpkin (Pang Shui) drew off in the final quarter to win the fifth by five lengths in 1:55.2. Kelly trains the six-year-old gelding and co-owns him with Paul Macdonald, Donald McDougall, and Daniel McDougall. Sunset Rider (Vertical Horizon), another from Kellyās barn, was four-and-a-half lengths the best in 1:56.4 in the sixth. Pick 6 Stable owns the gelded four-year-old.
Instant Wynn (Santanna Blue Chip) gave Gillis bookends as the sophomore filly held off a host of closers after taking over in the stretch to score in 1:58.1. Conditioner Kelly Crump owns the filly with Kyle Crump and Mark Laycock.
The Track On 2 enters its final racing month of the season with its next card on Sunday, Sep. 4. The remaining pair will take place on the following two Sundays.
