Going Yard (Always A Virgin) notched her third straight harness racing victory in an 11-1 upset as she stepped up to Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday (Jan. 18).
The mare got a pocket trip for Jonathan Drury behind Miss Dew Write (James MacDonald), who paced fractions of :28.2, :57.3, and 1:26.2. Waitinonawoman (Sylvain Filion) raced first-up through the third panel and into the stretch. Going Yard slid to the outside and powered to the lead, and she held off Waitinonawoman and a host of closers to score in 1:55.4. Waitinonawoman, her stablemate, finished second for a Jodie Cullen training exactor Ultra (Tyler Borth) was third.
GOING YARD REPLAY
Going Yard is two-for-two this year and has won three in a row. Her previous two wins came at Flamboro Downs, the second of which was a lifetime-best performance. The four-year-old raced at Hoosier Park in Indiana at two but moved to Ontario in mid-2023 when purchased by A1stable of Dundas. She is now nine-for-39 lifetime with $62,605 in earnings.
Woodbine Mohawk Park will feature a $36,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Handicap on its next card on Friday, Jan. 19. The first of 12 races will go to post at 7:10 p.m. EST.
