CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The 64th edition of the historic Gold Cup and Saucer, presented by Atlantic Lottery, is just around the corner and harness racing fans will be in for a preview of some potential Trial starters in the Saturday evening feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval has a 14-dash presentation on Saturday starting at 6 P.M. with the McWade Race Night 2023 Pace serving as the $3,800 Preferred 1 feature.
Repeal Or Replace comes to P.E.I. and gets post 3 in the featured pace for new owner Perry Burke of Quebec. Trevor Hicken trains the So Surreal six-year-old with Myles Heffernan Sr., getting the call to drive. The 23-time winner saw his last start record a lifetime best of 1:50.1 at Northfield Park in Ohio.
David Dowling will sit behind the Colin Johnson trained Rockabilly Rebel N from post 6, who ships in to P.E.I. in hopes of capturing the $100,000 Gold Cup and Saucer scheduled for Aug. 19. Brad Grant of Milton, Ont., co-owns the son of A Rocknroll Dance with Ecurie Csl of Sorel-Tracy, Quebec. His last start was a second-place finish in 1:49.4 at Hoosier Park in Indiana.
Summerside track record holder Roll Em has post 7 in the field for trainer-driver Marc Campbell fresh off of a 1:51.3 track record tying performance at Truro Raceway in Nova Scotia.
Bee Two Bee won this class last week for trainer-driver Jason Hughes in 1:51.4 and gets post 2 on Saturday.
Ys Mathis has rail control with Corey MacPherson picking up the drive from the Campbell stable.
Twin B Tuffenuff, a second-place finisher to Roll Em his last two starts, leaves from post 4 for driver Gilles Barrieau and trainer Ron Matheson.
Stash It Away rounds out the field in post 5 with Ken Murphy in the seat for trainer Kevin MacLean.

SUMMERSIDE, PE – There has been no touching Tobins Chester so far in his young career and the two-year-old son of Shanghai Phil will attempt to conquer the P.E.I. Colt Stakes on a mega-Sunday afternoon stakes card at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The Prince County oval will host 18-dashes of stakes races on Sunday featuring the P.E.I. Colt Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts, two-year-old pacing fillies, two-year-old trotters and three-year-old trotters as well as a leg of the Island Ocean Trot Classic, presented by Burkie By The Bay Stable.
Race 14 is a $13,500 Gold division of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts with the undefeated Tobins Chester leaving from post 2 for trainer-driver Jason Hughes and owner Donald MacRaae of Vernon Bridge. The Shanghai Phil pacer has been a comfortable winner in all his three outings including a 1:57.4 lifetime best last week at Inverness Raceway in Nova Scotia. His top rivals are listed as Pauls Crown (To be driven by Marc Campbell) and Check Your Chip (Myles Heffernan Sr.).
The Backstretch Beat says Tobins Chester will continue his winning streak.
“Tobins Chester served notice in Inverness that he is one to beat. We will await the showdown with Jackies Boy but since that isn’t coming today we say the winning continues.”
Jackies Boy will look to extend his own win streak from post 5 in the other $13,500 two-year-old colt Gold division in race 18 for driver Heffernan and owner-trainer Myles Heffernan Jr. The Tobago Cays colt posted an 18-length romp in 1:57.4 his latest start in Inverness. He will face off with Merigo Magic (Adam Merner) from post 3 and Good Omen (Paul Langille) with post 2.
The two-year-old pacing fillies have $11,400 Gold divisions in races 11, 15 and 17.
Chip Of Evil is the morning line favourite in the $11,400 Gold split in race 11, named the Bernie & Ron MacArthur Memorial. Corey MacPherson drives the Arthur Blue Chip filly from post 3 for owner Inarush Stable of Kensington and trainer Eddy Doucette.
Race 15 has Miss Wicked as the top choice from the Joe Baxter stable for owner Blaine Thibeau of Kensington. MacPherson drives that Mcwicked filly after guiding her to a 1:58.2 qualifying victory in Summerside.
Saulsbrook Feisty rides a two-race win streak into post 4 as the favourite in the 17 Gold division with Marc Campbell getting the call for co-owner and trainer Carrie Saunders and co-owner Lois Saunders of Bible Hill, N.S.
Irish Ray has a win streak of his own to protect in a $12,000 P.E.I. Colt Stakes three-year-old trotting colt division in race 10 as he will leave from post 4 while sporting a perfect 13-race win streak from as many career starts. Campbell trains and drives the Muscle Through It gelding for owner Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston. My Secret Ability (Kenny Arsenault) will try to end his streak from post 2 after winning his last two starts in identical 2:00.2 clockings at Red Shores Charlottetown.
