Gold Onthehorizon (Vertical Horizon) captured her first Preferred-level harness racing victory in the Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 at Century Mile on Friday (Nov. 10).
Driver Phil Giesbrecht gave her the best chance at it, sitting her in the pocket into the final quarter. She split through a tight lane on the last turn to escape the pylons, stepped around the leader, and outpaced Electric Amadeus (Thomas Michael Miller) to the finish to score in 1:55.1. The latter trailed her length-and-a-half. Bearcat Abigail (Brandon Campbell) was third.
GOLD ONTHEHORIZON REPLAY
Gold Onthehorizonās first Preferred win came as her fourth overall on the season in 28 outings. The Giesbrecht-trained five-year-old has now earned $81,109 and won 13 times in 72 lifetime starts. Giesbrecht co-owns her with Annabelle Pirie.
The victory kicked off a driving grand slam for Giesbrecht. He also won the fourth with Smokn Joe (Bjs Bequia, 1:57.1), Suellen Hanvoer (Bettors Delight, 1:55.3), and Van Nuys (Mr Wiggles, 1:57.1).
