Harness racing driver Brett MacDonald added some key cushion to his narrow advantage over Tyler Borth in the drivers’ standings at Grand River Raceway in the track’s second-to-last card of the meet on Friday (Sep. 23).
MacDonald, up by one win entering the day, struck first with One Crazy Guy (Thinking Out Loud) in the fourth. He waited patiently for cover before slingshotting three-wide on the final turn to unleash the gelding’s pace and earned him a maiden-breaking victory in 2:00.
Borth neutralised that tally in a wire-to-wire victory in 1:55.1 with Ship Disturber (Sunshine Beach) in the eighth and penultimate dash.
MacDonald ensured he left with a gain in the ninth as he rallied Called In Sick (Bettors Delight) three-wide from fifth in the final quarter to score in 1:56.2.
The pair go into the finale on Monday, Sep. 26 with scores of 42 and 40 for MacDonald and Borth, respectively. Both are past recipients of the Rising Star Award.
The closing day card will begin at 6:30 p.m.
