ELORA, ON (Monday, September 26, 2022) — Grand River Raceway closed the book on its 2022 harness racing season on September 26th and awarded leading driver and trainer honours for the meet.
Brett Macdonald from Freelton won the title as the leading driver at Grand River Raceway with 43 wins and over $240,000 in purse earnings. Macdonald had first call to drive horses for many of the top trainers during the meet, including Richard Moreau and Bob McIntosh. He has career winnings of 1,382 races and over $9.1 million in purse earnings.
Jodie Cullen was the leading trainer for the 2022 race meet, a title she last won in 2019. The Dundas Ontario resident recorded 16 wins and trained horses to purse earnings of $140,675. A top performer in her barn was pacing mare Exotic Dragon, with four wins in five starts. Others include six-year-old bay mare WhatIneedisaman with three wins in seven starts, pacer Dontpokethedragon with two wins in five starts, and top-class Clever Character winning twice in four starts.
All source wagering on Grand River Raceway’s live racing for the 2022 meet was $10,789,600 for a daily average of $234,556. The total wager was 6.1% up over the 2021 season.
