In High Cotton (Somebeachsomewhere) won her fourth straight Fillies and Mares Preferred at a rain-soaked Fraser Downs on Thursday (Apr. 25) in a comprehensive harness racing victory.
The mare, driven by Kelly Hoerdt, was never contested as she led the field of five through fractions of :26.4, :56.1, and 1:24.1. She opened up on pocket-sitter Grey Sea (John Abbott) down the lane and extended the margin of victory to two-and-three-quarter lengths in the 1:53 score. Grey Sea was second with another length-and-a-quarter to spare over Pirate Booty (Terry Kaufman).
IN HIGH COTTON REPLAY
In High Cotton kicked off her winning streak on Apr. 4 and has won every week since. She is now five-for-12 on the season for Hoerdt, who trains her and co-owns with Blair and Erna Corbeil of Leduc. The six-year-old has racked up 24 lifetime wins and a bankroll of $228,317 in 95 career appearances.
Driver Scott Knight won four of the nightās 10 races while Hoerdt steered three to victory. The latter leads the trackās standings with 49 tallies over the formerās 43.
Racing continues at Fraser Downs on Friday, Apr. 26 at 7:00 p.m. PDT. The 10-race program will feature the $50,000 Raymond Gemmill Memorial and $50,000 Penny Bath Memorial.
