Jamie Gray put together a four-win evening on Saturday (Mar. 18) to be Century Downs’s top harness racing driver of the day.
He started the card in the winner’s circle with Suellen Hanover (Bettors Delight), whom he ordered three-wide going into the far turn and lifted past her rivals for a 12-1 upset victory in 1:56.4. It was the first win of the season for the Phil GIesbrecht-trained four-year-old mare and gave her a new career mark.
SUELLEN HANOVER REPLAY
Gray then fired off a driving, training, and owning double with Order One To Go (Mystician) and Litizor (Vertical Horizon). Order One To Go beat his lifetime-best as the four-year-old prevailed in 1:54.4. Litizor took the front at the quarter, lost and then recaptured the lead in the middle half, and soared to a two-and-a-half-length win in 1:57.1. The five-year-old gelding is now eight-for-57 lifetime with $49,957 in earnings. Jackson Wittup co-owns both horses with Gray.
Big Bad Goldie (Big Bad John) secured Gray his grand slam with a determined stretch drive to prevail in 1:56.2. Joe Ratchford owns and trains the mare, an eight-year-old with 17 wins and $168,890 in earnings across 92 career outings.
BIG BAD GOLDIE REPLAY
Gray is now nine-for-49 this season as a driver and six-for-38 as a conditioner.
Driver Logan Gillis nearly matched Gray’s feet with three wins.
Century Downs will race next on Friday, Apr. 1.
