Harness News Update: Picks & Analysis for Century Downs June 7th

Another big weekend of harness racing kicks off at Century Downs on Friday (June 7) with a 12-dash program. As usual, the Pick 5 wager starts in the first race and has a guaranteed pool of $2500. The $1 minimum Pick 4 begins in the sixth and ends in the nine. There is also a $5554.80 carryover in the Pick 4 pool.

The first leg of the Pick 4 kicks off with a $5000 Claiming with a full field of nine pacers. At 5-2, Sammy Santana (Santanna Blue Chip) is coming off a win last week where he paced the mile in 1:57.2. It was the five-year-old gelding’s second win of the year and the seventh of his career.

The John Chappell-trained gelding was racing at Fraser Downs before moving to Calgary. Jaimie Gray will be back on the bike on Friday afternoon.

SAMMY SANTANA REPLAY

A strong candidate to single in the ninth race and final leg of the Pick 4 sequence in the 3-2 morning line favourite, Outlawabovenbeyond (Captive Audience). The four-year-old mare has won six of her eight starts this year and only has one finish outside the top two. She started the year with five straight wins before having a rough start and falling to sixth. The Rodney Starkewski trained pacer made her way back into the winner’s circle last week with a solid 1:55.3 mile. Michael Hennessy is set to be in the sulky.
