Harness News Update: Picks & Analysis for Fraser Downs April 4th

4 April 2024

Harness racing returns to Fraser Downs Thursday (Apr. 4) night with a nine dash card. This will be the last opportunity to play the Pick 5 before the track moves away from the wager.

The highlighted horse of the card is Diva Amour (Custard The Dragon). She has been on a good stretch as of late and has won six races in a row. She only made two visits to the winner’s circle last year during her three-year-old campaign. Diva Amour’s latest win was in 1:54.4 which was good enough to be a nice lifetime mark. Kelly Hoerdt trains and drives the four-year-old mare. She lines up in post position two during the seventh race and will be the key horse in my Pick 5 play.

DIVA AMOUR REPLAY

My Picks

Race 1

Rollin Withholly A (5) snapped her three-race win streak last week but fell to second. Still is one of the top in the field.

Ontheroadtotexas (4) finished fifth in season debut but paced the mile in a competitive time.

Outlaw Endofanera (2) has back-to-back wins to start the year but her times are a bit slower than the favourites.

Race 2

Senorita Draco (6) seems to be near the top but just hasn’t been able to close. Keeps getting better each week.

Tahuya Sweetchloe (3) is another filly that has been close to winning but hasn’t been able to close out a race. Could be anyone’s race.

Wednesdays Child (7) hasn’t shown the same speed as the favourites but usually can stay close.

Race 3

Shes Bodacious (5) won a couple of weeks ago but has yet to do it again. However, her mile times continue to improve.

Littlebitacustard (6) has shown impressive speed, but the results haven’t been there yet.

Positively Special (4) has performed well but now moves up against tougher competition. She still should be near the top.

Race 4

Phone Nine One One (3) was close to earning first career win last time out but just missed it by a head. His continues to improve each week.

Outlaw Tuff Enough (4) took a slight step back last week after coming out hot to start the year. He will look to regain his top form.

Betterthanluck (8) could have a good price attached and will have Kelly Hoerdt in the bike once again. Will be dangerous and look for the upset.

Race 5

Sylvester (2) is the only horse in the field that has consistently gone sub 2:00 recently.

Master Of Liberty (3) has been hovering around the 2:00 mark and finishing near the top.

Surprise My Shadow (5) is still very green but has always finished in the top three. Expect that to continue this weekend.

If Dali Dancer (9AE) draws in, I would keep an eye on her.

Race 6

Catchmegracefully (8) went wire-to-wire in the pocket last time out. This time, she draws the rail and will come from the second level, the pocket-style trip will likely be what she does again.

Outlawelecticblue (4) had back-to-back wins in early March but hasn’t had great results lately. However, her mile times are still very competitive.

Got Sugar (6) has a second and win in her two starts this year. Her mile times are competitive with the favourites.

Race 7

Diva Amour (2) has won six in a row and is the only one in the field to have gone sub 1:55 recently. She will be the key in my Pick 5 and for good reason.

Hotpieceoface (6) had a big second-place finish in the Filly & Mare Open but now returns to a class where she should feel more comfortable.

Western Summit (5) strung a few wins together earlier in the year but had some issues and qualified again. It will be interesting to see what Western Summit we get.

Race 8

In High Cotton (4) just missed out on winning last week. Was buried early but having an outside post should help her set up better.

Grey Sea (7) won last week beating In High Cotton and could easily do it again. I think these two horses are interchangeable.

Pirate Booty (5) hasn’t raced in over a month. She was the one to beat before her time off and her qualifying mile time shows she is still in good shape.

Race 9

Beach Myst (3) won in 1:56.3 last time out. She overcame post position six last time and gets a bit of relief in that respect. Should be able to go straight to the front.

Forever Furley (2) has finished fourth in back-to-back races after her last win. His times are very competitive with Beach Myst.

Million Reasons (5) was scratched due to illness last week but will look to get back at it.

Pick 5 Play

Post time is 10:00 p.m. EST.
