Harness racing stake season kicks off in Manitoba on Saturday (July 13) at The Loop. Nine three-year-old fillies draw into two divisions of the Lady Crocus. The first division lines up in race two and goes for $11,250. The second division is a couple of races later in the fifth and goes for $11050.
The field for the first division is as follows:
- Peekaboo Pebbles ā Donald Howlett (6-1)
- Grit N Grace ā Dean Rey (2-1)
- Lazar Mania ā Michel Rey (3-1)
- Trust Me A lot ā Tyler Grundy (5-1)
- Im Outrageous Too ā Richard Remillard (4-1)
The 2-1 morning line favourite, Grit N Grace (Im The Pied Piper) is coming off a second-place finish in her racing debut. Ā She recorded a mile time of 2:07.4 and only lost by about a length. Dean Rey is in the bike, and he will be looking for his first driving win of the meet. He has four second-place drives in five appearances.
Lazar Mania (Lazarus N) finished third place behind Grit N Grace last week by a couple of lengths. She is one of two in the field to have a start early this year. She raced at Western Fair but finished eighth place. Lazar Mania also had four starts last year around Ontario. Her best finish was second place at Flamboro Downs.
Even though it was a fourth-place effort, Im Outrageous Too (Outrageous Art) recorded the fastest mile time last week. Her only other starts this year were in the ABSS Diamond eliminations at Century Downs and she finished fourth. During her rookie campaign, she booked one trip to the winnerās circle in ten starts. She paced the mile in 1:55 at Track On 2.
The field for the second division is as follows:
- Choozetocruise ā Richard Remillard (2-1)
- Reys N Mischief ā Blake Piwniuk (5-1)
- Chasin Rainbows ā Dean Rey (3-1)
- Is He Watching ā Michel Rey (4-1)
Choozetocruise (Lambretta) is coming off a win in 2:06.1 at The Loop. It was her first career win in seven starts. Before that, her best first was second place last year. She has finished in the top three in five of seven career starts. She has never not earned a cheque either in an off her appearances.
Chasin Rainbows (Spinfiniti) debuted last week and finished just behind Choozetocruise. Her mile was clocked at 2:07.1 which was a full five seconds faster than her qualifying mile. She even broke early in the race but rallied late. If she stays flat, she could likely hit the winnerās circle.
