Harness News Update: Picks and analysis for Woodbine Mohawk Park July 27th

Woodbine Mohawk Park has a ten-dash harness racing card set for Saturday (July 27).

A free program can be found here.

The feature race of the night is the $36,000 Preferred which comes in the seventh race of the evening. A field of nine high flying aged pacers draw in for what is usually one of the most exciting races of the night.

Whichwaytothebeach (Somebeachsomewhere) has won four straight races and the last three were in the Preferred. He achieved a new lifetime mark of 1:48.4 during that stretch and his last win was a strong 1:49 mile. The six-year-old gelding has six wins this year and 12 top three finishes. Whichwaytothebeach likes to grab the front end early and hold onto the lead  throughout. He is extremely tough to catch with his ability to close races with a 26 second last quarter. He is inching closer to becoming a millionaire race horse and a win on Saturday will surely help the cause. Sylvain Filon will be in the sulky once again for trainer, Garry Merner.

WHICHWAYTOTHEBEACH REPLAY

The field is fully of stiff competition but the main threat is Redwood Hanover (Stay Hungry). He is coming off a win in 1:49 at Mohawk Park and before that he was pacing miles sub 1:49 at the Meadowlands. He only has the one win this year but the speed he was posting in New Jersey can surely can be enough to find wins now that he is back north of the border. In losing efforts, he post final quarters of 25.3 and 25.4! The trouble has been finding the proper space early in the race. He draws post four and will be inside the high flying Whichwaytothebeach so setting up the race should be easier this time. Anthony Beaton trains and Jody Jamieson will be in the bike.
