A big day of harness racing stake eliminations is set for Saturday (June 8) at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Two splits for both the Armbro Flight and Fan Hanover are among the 11 dashes on the program. As well there are three eliminations for the Pepsi North America Cup.
A free program can be found here.
The third race is the first elimination of the Pepsi North American Cup. The full field is as follows:
Janelle Granny ā Brett Macdonald (20-1)
Special Menu ā Andrew McCarthy (15-1)
Clever Cody ā Dave Miller (6-1)
Captain Albano ā Todd McCarthy (9-5)
Ivy Park ā Yannick Gingras (8-1)
Captain Quarters ā Jody Jamieson (3-1)
Remember The Alamo ā Tim Tetrick (12-1)
Gem Quality ā Dexter Dunn (7-2)
Captain Albano (Captaintrecherous) will look to remain perfect this year. Both of his starts were in the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes and he won them in 1:50.4 and 1:49.4. The Noel Daley-trained colt is coming off a great rookie campaign. He won seven of his nine starts and never finished outside the top two. Captain Albano has a lifetime mark of 1:49.2 and will need something similar to beat this field. Todd McCarthy will be back in the bike at post-time.
CAPTAIN ALBANO REPLAY
The second elimination is set for race five and the field is as follows:
Captain Luke ā Scott Zeron (6-1)
Calicojack Hanover ā Louis-Phillipe Roy (15-1)
Legendary Hanover ā James Macdonald (6-5)
Mirage Hanover ā Tim Tetrick (4-1)
Number Cruncher ā Andrew McCarthy (8-1)
Funtime Bayama ā Sylvain Filion (7-2)
Newsroom ā Dexter Dunn (10-1)
Miki Ray ā Yannick Gingras (15-1)
Cupid Shuffle ā Doug McNair (20-1)
The one to beat in the second elimination is Legendary Hanover (Huntsville). After winning his first two starts of the year, he rallied to finish second in last weekās Somebeachsomewhere. He achieved a new lifetime mark of 1:48.3 in his second win of 2024 after winning in 1:49.4 in his seasonal debut. Legendary Hanover had an impressive two-year-old season as well. He won six of his nine starts and only finished worse than second place once. Anthony Beaton trains the colt and James Macdonald will be in the sulky.
LEGENDARY HANOVER REPLAY
The final elimination is slated for the seventh and the field is as follows:
Stat That ā Lewayne Miller (15-1)
Its Saturday Night ā Dexter Dunn (8-1)
Nijinsky ā Louis-Phillipe Roy (9-5)
Unrivaled Hanover ā Jonathan Drury (10-1)
Captain Fear Not ā Doug McNair (15-1)
Storm Shadow ā Bob McClure (6-1)
Better Is Nice ā Andrew McCarthy (4-1)
Wallace Hartley ā Tyler Borth (15-1)
Total Stranger ā Yannick Gingras (7-2)
The heavy favouirte, Nijinsky (Bettors Delight) is looking great so far this year. He is a perfect three-for-three and his latest win in the Somebeachsomewhere was pace in a best 1:49. He only had one win last year in ten starts and only finished in the top three five times. Nijinsky certainly is looking a lot better this year and will look to earn another spot in the final for trainer Anthony Beaton.
