Harness racing driver Natasha Day won the women’s driving challenge on the 19th annual Harness the Hope Night on Friday (Oct. 18) at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
Day, the defending champion, won none of the five challenge races but hit the board in all of them, winning the overall competition. The race winners were Maggie Jones, Tammy Lynn MacKay, Amber Campbell, Pam Forgie, and Marielle Enberg with Campbell and MacKay visiting from the East Coast. Britt Kennedy and Anita Ouellette completed the field of eight.
Harness the Hope is a charity that organizes initiatives to benefit breast cancer research, awareness, and support services. It was founded by the Jones family in 2005. Along with the driving competition, the event’s fundraising efforts included an online silent auction, sponsorships, and door prize tickets. Day also donated her driving earnings from the contest.
Travis Henry managed a driving triple on the five non-contest races.
The next card at The Raceway at the Western Fair District is set for Monday, Oct. 21 with a 5:50 p.m. first post.
