Harness racing driver Trevor Henry won both Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots divisions for two-year-old trotting fillies at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Tuesday (Sep. 6).
His first victory was never in doubt. Division leader Lucy Who (Wheeling N Dealin) cut the mile and streaked five lengths clear in the stretch to score and notch a new career mark of 1:57.4. No Angel Like Me (Sylvain Lacaille) held off the closing Its Sally Deal (Mark Etsell) for place.
LUCY WHO REPLAY
Lucy Who has won four of her six starts to date, including three in the Grassroots, and has earned $46,000. She is currently riding a three-race win streak for trainer Julie Walker and owner/breeder Murray Bradshaw of Wilsonville.
Divinne Magic (Muscle Mass) upset at 11-1 for Henry in the second division. She sat behind four lead changes and soared home fastest of all from second-over to score in 1:59.4. Sweet Carrie T (Etsell) passed the winner on the turn and took the lead in mid-stretch but was caught by a neck. Dealin Fashion (Louis-Philippe Roy) was third.
DIVINNE MAGIC REPLAY
It was Divinne Magicās first career win in four tries. She debuted in the Prospect Series but stepped up to the Grassroots in her second outing and has been there since. Keith Jones trains the filly for Maggie Jones, Susan Heard, Jody Simmons, and Philip Newfeld.
Action continues at Woodbine Mohawk Park at 7:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday, Sep. 8.
