SUMMERSIDE, PE – The Friday program was cut short by torrential rains creating unsafe track conditions at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway with Hunger Pangs winning the top harness racing class to go postward.
The final three races of the 11-dash Friday Summerside card were cancelled before race 9 by racing officials due to heavy rains that caused damage to the Prince County Oval. In what was carded as the back-up pace, race 8 saw Hunger Pangs prevail in his $2,800 assignment in line to Gilles Barrieau for trainer Blaine McKenna and owner Susanna MacKeigan of Albert Bridge, N.S. Gonna Fool Ya (Driven by David Dowling) cut out the action with splits of 30.2, 1:01.1 and 1:30.2 with Hunger Pangs grinding away first-over.
The son of Pang Shui reached up in the stretch drive to win in 1:59.3 with a two-second variant over Pictonian Storm (Marc Campbell) and Gonna Fool Ya finishing third.
The fastest class of the evening saw a field of pacing fillies battle in race 3 for a $2,050 pot with Plain Jane stopping the clock in 1:57.1 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owner Leigh Gavin of Tignish. Somebodys Me (Jason Hughes) sat the pocket to finish second while Fear The Lady (Barrieau) completed the triactor ticket.
Total wager on the eight-dashes run was $34,482. Live racing continues at Red Shores Summerside next Friday (June 11) at 6 P.M. For race replays and more go to Redshores.ca.
