In High Cotton (Somebeachsomewhere) captured her first harness racing victory since June as she defeated odds-on favourite Grey Sea in the Fillies and Mares Preferred at Fraser Downs on Thursday (Dec. 5).
She dropped in third, at the back of a leading group of three with Grey Sea (John Abbott) cutting the quarter of :26.4. In High Cotton had a front-row seat as Ima Beach Diva (Scott Knight) popped the pocket and pressured the leader through the half in :54.4 and onto the backstretch.
Ima Beach Diva ran out of gas before three-quarters in 1:23.3, leaving Grey Sea and In High Cotton to battle it out. In High Cotton swung out as they straightened for home and grinded down Grey Sea, pushing clear to prevail by a half-length in 1:54.
Stonebridge Jade finished third. The winner returned $10.80.
