CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – As soon as In Spades touched down on the front end there was no looking back in the Saturday evening preferred pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Austin Sorrie continued his successful first year in the race bike while guiding the son of Bettor’s Delight to the winner’s circle in the $2,500 preferred pace. In Spades stopped the clock in 1:53.1 to give the 18-year-old Sorrie his fastest lifetime mile.
Rose Run Quest (Driven by Marc Campbell) was the first to make front in the Saturday preferred but relinquished the lead to In Spades at the 27.2 first quarter station. In Spades and Sorrie then rolled to the half in 55.3 then tripped three-quarters in 1:24.4 while battling the first over advance of race favourite Euchred (Adam Merner).
In Spades continued his drive to prevail in the stretch by one-and-one-quarter lengths over Rose Run Quest with Czar Seelster (Kenny Arsenault) completing the triactor. Sorrie trains In Spades for owner Walter Simmons of Summerside.
Sodwana Bay continued her undefeated streak in the $2,350 Fillies and Mares Open pace with a five-length victory in 1:55.1. Gilles Barrieau trains and drives the mare for owners Wayne MacRae of Fall River, N.S., and Howmac Farms Ltd., of North Wiltshire. Sodwana Bay now sports three straight wins since relocating to Atlantic Canada.
Ramblinglily (Gary Chappell) finished second while pacesetter West River Ambyr (Steven Shepherd) was third.
