Euchred trumped Inverness rivals in the track’s Winners Over feature harness racing pace on Sunday for his first win of the season.
Redmond Doucet launched the Shadow Play gelding to the lead, crossing over his five rivals to do so. Euchred showed the way through :28.3, :58.1, and 1:27.3 splits with a comfortable hold on the lead. Thunder Alley (Donald Gillis), fresh after a pocket trip, rallied on the outside as they swung through the final turn.
Thunder Alley closed, but Euchred dug in and reached the finish line in time to complete a 1:56.2 score. Thunder Alley was a neck short in second. Daddy Let Me Drive (Leander Beaton) finished third.
EUCHRED REPLAY
Euchred paid $3.10 in his 64th career victory. The Walter Walker trainee has earned $144,779 in 188 lifetime outings. Inverness, N.S. local Kayla Walker has owned the horse since 2016.
Doucet and Walter Walker were the only competitors to double on the card: Doucet won at the lines of Likely To Win (1:58.4) in the sixth, and Walker harnessed his own Cougar On A Terr to a maiden-breaking score in the opener.
Inverness Raceway is set to return on Wednesday, Jul. 21.
