The Loop held another 9-dash card, and the feature harness racing event was the second running of the new Manitoba Four-Year-Old Stake.
Irish Melvin (Mystery Chase) took the lead from the word go and never looked back. He opened the race with a brisk 30-second opening quarter and mirrored that time in the second panel. The back half of the race was a bit slower, and Irish Melvin breezed to victory with a 2:03.0-mile time.
IRISH MELVIN REPLAY
This was the first win of the year for Irish Melvin, but he had great success last year. He made ten starts as a sophomore and won four of them. Two of those wins were the MSSBA Futurity Final and the prior elimination. Irish Melvin paced the final in 2:00.3, still his lifetime mark.
He has earned $29,986 in 19 career starts. The four-year-old pacer was bred and is owned by Dave Mooney. Trevor Williams trains him, and Blake Piwniuk was in the bike. Williams earned three wins on the day, while Piwniuk added another four to his yearly win total.
Racing will return to the Loop next Saturday (Sep. 30).
