It Takes Two (Artspeak) ensured last week’s break stayed an April Fool’s joke as the gelding bounced back with a lifetime-best harness racing performance in the Preferred at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Monday (Apr. 8).
The gelding sprung from the pocket for Lorne House on the final trip down the backstretch to attack leader P L Oliver (Colin Kelly). It was tooth-and-nail for the final quarter-mile with the horses matching strides into the last 1/16th. P L Oliver battled bravely but It Takes Two produced his signature final-stride lunge to prevail by a nose in 1:54.3. Taylors Credit (Garrett Rooney) swooped from last to be a late-charging third.
IT TAKES TWO REPLAY
It Takes Two has won three of his last four starts, all at the Preferred level. In all three victories, the gelding chased down a rival and got up by a nose. Scott McNiven trains him for co-breeder Kimberley McNiven and Brad Douglas of Ingersoll. It Takes Two, a four-year-old, is now 16-for-61 lifetime with $113,621 in career earnings. He has won seven of 13 starts on the year.
Racing continues at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Tuesday, Apr. 9 at 5:50 p.m. EDT.
