Its A Love Thing (Bettors Delight) turned on the jets in the stretch to forge past her harness racing rivals and capture the $540,000 Shes A Great Lady on Saturday (Sep. 23) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Leading driver James MacDonald slipped the filly into the four-hole as the field turned towards the quarter in :26.4. My Girl Ej (Dave Miller) provided that split, but Caviart Belle (Yannick Gingras) took the torch from her in the second panel and led to the half in :55.1.
Its A Love Thing tipped first-over on the final turn and began climbing past rivals on the way to three-quarters in 1:23.1. Caviart Belle was put to the test at the top of the lane with Its A Love Thing in her rear-view mirror. Its a Love Thing struck the front in deep-stretch, and she got home a winner in 1:50.3.
Odds On Platinum (Sylvain Filion) found room halfway down the stretch and soared for second. My Girl Ej passed Caviart Belle late for show.
ā(Its A Love Thing)’s just a great filly and she proved again tonight if I put her in an okay spot she can do some damage,” MacDonald said in his post-race interview.
ITS A LOVE THING REPLAY
Its A Love Thing is six-for-nine for trainer Dave Menary. The fillyās bankroll of $486,446 has been bolstered by victories in the Champlain and Ontario Sires Stakes. She is owned by Eric Good of Davidsonville, Thomas Biederman of Lexington, and Joshua Green of Midway.
āIāve had a lot of nice fillies, but Iāve never been standing here,ā Menary said after the race. āWhen you race in Ontario, especially with Ontario breds, you dream of being in the Sheās A Great Lady or the Metro and getting the job done. Iām happy to be standing here.ā
