Ivana Flybye made her first trip to Georgian Downs since moving to Canada a fruitful one as she went coast-to-coast in the Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 harness racing feature.
Jean Rene Plante put the mare in play early, sending her three-wide into the first turn. She struggled to clear So Frisky (Anthony Haughan) for the lead but did so prior to passing the quarter mile marker in :27.1. Ivana Flybye N spearheaded the field of six through the half in :55.4 and three-quarters in 1:24 while easily dismissing a first-over challenge from Manhattan Night (Travis Henry).
Planteās job was finished at the head of the stretch as Ivana Flybye N coasted for the final eighth of a mile to a 1:52.1 victory. Saulsbrook Jessie (Brett Macdonald) motored from last for place. So Frisky finished third. The winner returned $2.10.
Ivana Flybye N, a seven-year-old daughter of American Ideal, is now 18-for-58 with $222,445 in earnings. Carmen Auciello trains her for MT Stables of Scarborough. The mare moved from New Zealand to Canada in 2020. She won four straight at Woodbine Mohawk Park earlier in the season but dropped to the Georgian Preferred 2 level on Saturday after a cold streak.
Plante also drove Flossie N (1:52.3) and Comanche Creek (1:52.4) to wins in the fourth and fifth, respectively, for a triple.
Another Preferred 2 features on Georgian Downsā next card, which is scheduled for Sunday, Jul. 11. First post for that program will be 6:00 p.m. EDT.
