Jandals (Muscle Mass) ascended to the top of the harness racing standings in Prospect Series for three-year-old trotting fillies as she and Royaltys Dream (Royalty For Life) shone in leg 2B at Grand River Raceway on Wednesday (Jun. 29).
Jandals (Scott Zeron), who has entered every Prospect Series race available to her this year, scored her second victory in the third-tier Ontario-sired program.
She was the quickest starter from post four but gave up command to a determined La Bromontoise (Sylvain Lacaille) going into the first turn. The latter headed :29.2, 1:00.2, and 1:30.3 fractions, but she couldnāt reach the final pole before Jandals rallied from the pocket and pushed her head in front for a 2:01.1 win.
Strong favourite Gala Halo (Rick Zeron) recovered from a break at the start to finish third. Correct $2 win tickets returned $17.70.
JANDALS REPLAY
It was Jandalsās second career win from 15 starts, and it lifted her earnings to $18,125. Susanne Kerwood trains the filly, who is now the divisionās leader for the series, for S&R Racing Stable of Acton. Jandals is five points ahead of Say Something in the table, who finished second in the other group.
Royaltys Dream tallied her third win in five and first in the Prospect Series following two straight place finishes.
She swept in from post six on the first bend as Anthony Haughan commanded top speed to put her on top before hitting the first quarter in :28.4. The filly stole a 1:01.3 half and 1:32.3 three-quarters in 1:32.3, then powered home to a 2:01.3 victory.
Say Somethingās (Tyler Borth) first-up bid fell a length-and-a-half short. Miss Tory (Colin Kelly) was a clear third. The winner supplied a mild 5-1 upset.
ROYALTYS DREAM REPLAY
Royaltys Dream has won three of her 10 tries and brought in $20,129 for owner/breeders John and Susan Clark of Caledonia. Meg Crone has harnessed her through a five-race hot spell of three wins and a pair of seconds. The filly missed the board in all four starts at two.
The Prospect Series for sophomore filly trotters continues with leg 3A on Saturday, Jul. 9 at Hanover Raceway.
