Jaydens Place (Vintage Master) was in a winner’s circle for the third time in seven days as he won the Bay Derby final while breaking the track record at Nouvelle on Saturday (Jul. 30).
He shut the door on Ninoscredit (Jimmy Gagnon) to secure pocket positioning in a :28.2 first quarter. Mickeymakesomespeed (Michel Allard) supplied a :57.1 half from the lead, and Michel Audet issued marching orders to Jaydens Place nearing three-quarters in 1:26.2.
Jaydens Place slingshotted out of the pocket and kicked clear after a final turn clash with Mickeymakesomespeed for the victory in 1:56.2.
Mickeymakesomespeed, out-finished by three lengths, took place. Ninoscredit was third. The clocking lowered the Nouvelle all-age pacing record by one second and two-fifths. D J Power set the previous time in 2021.
Jaydens Place has completed five racing miles in seven days. He was victorious in the 3 Mille, a three-mile race at St. Joseph de Lepage, then travelled to Nouvelle for his Bay Derby elimination win on Jul. 27, and took the final on Saturday. Audet trains the nine-year-old, who has now won 20 of 165 starts and earned $241,449, for Francois Morin of Beauceville.
Spectrum Seelster (Mach Three, Maxim Gaudreault) took the Bay Derby consolation in 1:58.4. Sophies Cam (Audet) beat Twin B Fearless (Jean-Marc Roy) to the line for second.
Spectrum Seelster was a Mohawk Park claiming contender before he relocated to the Quebec circuit earlier this year under new owners. Charles, Daniel, and Maxim Gaudreault own the six-year-old gelding. Charles Gaudreault is responsible for the training.
The Quebec regional fair circuit continues on Saturday, Aug. 6 at St. Joseph de Lepage. The first race will go to post at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
