Standardbred Canada reports that despite being away from the racetrack for 25 months, Adriano Sorella’s Jimmy Freight hasn’t forgotten how to win. The six-year-old son of Sportswriter prevailed in his qualifying return, on Friday (Nov. 26) at Woodbine Mohawk Park, with a 1:56.4 performance.
In line to Louis-Philippe Roy,Ā Jimmy FreightĀ floated from his outside post 7 to land in third behind a soft early pace controlled by Lancaster Bomber (Doug McNair). After stalking splits of :29.2 and :59, Jimmy Freight edged off the pegs with five-sixteenths to go, surging forward to overtake Lancaster Bomber just beyond three-quarters in 1:29.
The 21-time winner switched gears off the corner for home, throwing down a :27.4 final panel and holding off Richard Moreau stablemate Shadow In Red (Sylvain Filion) by a half-length.
Jimmy Freight is slated to pullĀ double dutyĀ in 2022, as Sorella announced earlier this month.
