Trapped along the rail with no place to go, harness racing driver Louis-Philippe Roy was able to swing Jimmy Freight three-wide in the stretch and then mow down Wheels On Fire at the wire in the $36,000 Preferred Pace Saturday at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The third race feature started out with Jimmy Freight, Untred and driver Jody Jamieson and the race favorite at 3/5, Wheels On Fire (Doug McNair) all wanting the lead. The battle was won by Untred with Jimmy Freight getting the two-hole and Wheels On Fire backing off and grabbing a seat in fourth place.
They raced past the first quarter in :27.4. Uhtred led to the half mile in :57 and that was when Points North (Jonathan Drury) started up first-over and flushed out Wheels On Fire. Wheels On Fire then came after Uhtred past the three-quarters in 1:24.4.
Once in the stretch, Jimmy Freight could not advance and Roy waited as OāBrien Award winner Wheels On Fire wore down pacesetter Uhtred. Then Roy moved Jimmy Freight three-wide to the outside and once they had clearance, Jimmy Freight dug right in and collared Wheels On Fire to win by a slim neck in 1:52.2. Uhtred was third.
